about

For this rock band, it seems that rollicking good times have been set aside in order to focus on the darker side of things. M & Co.'s second album is an effort that delves into sonic and lyrical territory that aches with melancholy.

James McAndrew's husky voice delivers brooding lyrics that mesh well with some of the darker themes. "Bombsong," maybe the best track on the album, is a striding rock song with time and tempo changes that bring it from a steady march to a waltz, to a furious sprint and back again. Robin Ryczek's cello weaves in and out of songs alongside multi-instrumentalist Bill Whitney and accordion from Peter Bufano, but Milquebelieve is largely defined by the hopeless note in McAndrew's voice and the ghost sounds of Ryczek's cello, producing the most chilling music in town.
